Data sharing / PowerBI integration

Data sharing / PowerBI integration

Requires data sharing service enabled for your tenant. If you don' have access to it, contact support@effect.io to get it enabled.

To be able to get the data into a PowerBI dashboard (or other Business intelligence software), you can enable this feature in the survey settings.

When the setting is enabled, a table is created and your tenant user will get access to this one automatically.

How do I connect with PowerBI?
  1. Enable the feature in survey settings
  2. In PowerBI, go to "Add new data" and select Amazon Redshift as connector
  3. Add the url (dataconnect.effect.io) and username / password (shown in survey settings)
  4. Add username / password (shown in survey settings)
  5. Select the data tables you want to use in the BI service, and next which type of connection you would use

How does it work?
  1. When the data sharing feature is enabled, all existing data will be written to the data sharing table. This means that you don't need to have it enabled when beginning your projects
  2. When feature is turned off, the table will be deleted automatically (other tables for other surveys will be kept)
  3. If the tenant gets the feature turned off, all tables and the user will be deleted from the data sharing service.
  4. Only completed respondents will appear in the data table
  5. When a respondent completes, it will automatically be added to the survey table. This way you can have live update of respondents on your dashboard
  6. When a respondent is deleted, it will immediately be deleted from the survey table, making the service always synched with the main survey database.
  7. The service supports both import and DirectQuery. Learn more about DirectQuery here
Security
  1. Connections are always encrypted
  2. There is a strong password for the user, which can be reset in UI
  3. Only surveys you select will be made available to the data sharing service
  4. You can easily stop data sharing and delete the data in the data sharing by disabling the feature in survey settings
  5. The data sharing service is completely separated from the main Effect IO database and data is only written to the service when you select it
  6. The data is available to connect with on internet and is separate from the main Effect IO database
